Mulungushi University Dean of Students Office
The main role of the Dean of Students Office is to ensure that Students have a home away from home. Considering that Students spend most of their time on the University premises, it is important for our Office to make their stay as comfortable as possible.
The Office of the Dean of Students comprises of the following units; Administrative Unit, Career Guidance and Counselling Unit, Sport and Recreation Unit and Catering Unit.
These units are operational and Students can access these Services.
The Administrative Officer oversees the administration of Student Accommodation Services. The Student Counsellors oversee the Career Guidance and Counseling Services. Please make use of these Services. The Sports Officer oversees the Sport and Recreation activities at the University. As the old saying states, “a healthy mind in a healthy body”. It is only through active participation in sports that this saying can be realized. The Sports Officer offers various sports disciplines. Students are free to participate in the sport of their choice.
Please as you join Mulungushi University, refrain from engaging in undesirable activities such as abuse of drugs and alcohol. Adherence to Student Rules and Regulations is a must.
Our aim is to ensure that Students think less of their home but more of their academic engagements as we play our part in fulfilling the mission of the University which states; “To Provide High-Quality Academic Programmes, Research and Consultancy Services Through Stakeholder Engagement”.
SPORTS AND RECREATION
Mulungushi University Sports and Recreation
Mulungushi University is committed to providing sports and recreation so as to develop students and staff regardless of age, gender and physical disability into physically and mentally healthy human beings.
A “healthy mind in a healthy body” is paramount to pursuing the frontiers of knowledge at Mulungushi University
The office is manned by a trained, qualified, skilled sports and recreations officer whose main purpose is to plan, organize and coordinate sporting and recreation activities within and outside the University for students and staff.
The sports and recreations officer makes contact with the outside community on cultural activities to promote the culture
The sports and recreations officer identifies and develops talent among students and staff in order to bring up sportsmen and women of higher standards
We offer the following activities;
- Soccer - Badminton - Tennis - Netball
- Judo - Athletics - Basketball - Table tennis
- flexibility exercises - Judo - Walking for healthy - Chess
There are also various cultural activities for recreational and academic purposes. These include debates, Annual Miss Mulungushi Beauty Pageants, and drama.
Benefits of taking part in sports and physical activity;
Improve personal well being thus extends life expectancy as risks of dying early from non-communicable diseases like heart diseases, diabetes, cancer, diabetes, blood lipids, hypertension, etc are reduced.
Provide healthy alternatives to harmful actions such as drug abuse, crime involvements, use of alcohol and tobacco.
Sport also brings about teamwork, autonomy, and self-regulation at both cognitive and motivational levels.
It brings about character formation and consolidation of ethical values, based on the respect for others, fair play, and truth
Acknowledgment of cultural diversity and the appreciation of intercultural contract.
Sport is an exercise based medicine found on scientific research that improves health
We take part in the following competitions
Zambia Higher Institution Sports Association (ZHISA) organized activities tournaments
Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCCSA) games
Zambia universities Sports Association (ZUSA) games 4. World University games organized by the International Federation of Sports Association (FISU)
We are also in the process of building a modern sports and recreation center
