Introducing
FRENCH FOR BEGINNERS

The course serves to combat the language inadequacy arising from the introduction of the basic school programme which reduced coverage of the secondary school syllabus from five years to three years of High School in which pupils were expected to cover the same five year content. This is because French was mainly taught in High schools which has a three-year programme.

Course Details

Background

Given that the world has become a global village, the knowledge of a second foreign language is a necessity for nearly every person under the sun. In Zambia, for instance, the landlocked status of the country makes it urgent for us to learn either Portuguese or French as we interact with our non-English speaking neighbours in Mozambique and in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Specifically, those with the knowledge of French are able to manoeuvre freely as they carry out their business in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo.

It is for this and many other reasons that the School of Education at Mulungushi University has designed a course in French to enable people without any knowledge in French to enrol and learn the language.

Another factor that has necessitated the introduction of this course is the popular demand and pressure to study French by unqualified candidates who would want to become teachers of French.

Rationale

The course serves to combat the language inadequacy arising from the introduction of the basic school programme which reduced coverage of the secondary school syllabus from five years to three years of High School in which pupils were expected to cover the same five year content. This is because French was mainly taught in High schools which has a three-year programme.

  3. Do not be hindered from enrolling into French Universities because you cannot speak the French Language. Give yourself an opportunity to experience a different way of life.
